Listening to My Body

One thing I have learned over time is that my body knows exactly what it needs at any given time.  And if I am willing to pay attention to what my body tells me it needs, I will be guided in the flow of my path in exactly the way that is right for me.

That doesn’t mean I am always guided toward the way I want to go, or toward the things I want to be doing or don’t want to be doing.  Sometimes what I want is very different from what my body is telling me it needs.  Choosing to be aware of what my body is telling me, choosing to acknowledge that and then let myself feel anything I may be feeling about that – and then to accept with peace where my body is leading me is an ongoing process of learning and growing.

It is also a process that has allowed me to experience a much greater sense of wellbeing in my life.  Part of that wellbeing has come from honoring and taking care of and nurturing my body in the way that it needs, and part of it is from the impact that doing so has had on my mental and emotional and spiritual wellbeing.  Accepting where I am with gratitude brings great peace and joy to my life.

I believe that following the flow of my life is an essential practice.  I know that doing so will always guide me in the direction I need to go for my overall good.  Listening to my body is a part of following the flow.  It allows me to heal when I need to heal.  Nourish my body in the way it needs to be nourished.  Participate in activity that brings me wonderful experiences and results in accomplishments I feel good about, and avoid activity that may cause injury or damage to myself.  It allows me to rest when my body needs to rest and to move when it needs to move.  To gain understanding when there are changes I need to make or practices I need to repeat.  And it allows me to feel immense gratitude for so many things that I have to be thankful about.

Listening to my body isn’t always easy because sometimes I hear things I don’t want to hear.  But I am so grateful that my body is able to lead me in the direction that I always need to go.

I hope you listen to your body today!
