Today

The presidential election was yesterday. I don’t think the political process is the answer to the essential needs of humanity, but as a society, it is a way of organizing ourselves and that is a need too. This election was one that was filled with many intense emotions for a lot of people in our country. A country that presently is pretty divided and at odds with one another. A country that needs to find its way to unity and respect, compassion, and love for one another.

Because the country was so divided in who they wanted to win the election, many people woke up this morning feeling not good about the outcome. It was not what they had been hoping for. And I guess for all of us, whether we are happy with the outcome or not, the question today is “what do I do now?”

The answer to that question for me is the same as it is every day. How I live my life, the choices I make, how I treat other people. The energy that I choose to send out and contribute to the world around me. That is the same truth today as it was yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that.

So that is what I will do today. Live today in the best way that I can. Center in what I know is true. Live mindfully in each of my moments. Focus on gratitude for so many things. And send out as much love and compassion into the world and to touch the people around me as I can.

That is my true purpose. And no political outcome will do that for me – that is up to me, to choose the way I will live each day.

I hope you choose to show love, respect, and compassion to others today, regardless of their political beliefs.
