Follow the Flow

Sometimes I struggle with wanting to push forward in doing something when it’s not the right time.  It’s always been in my nature to drive forward, to take action as opposed to sitting still and waiting.  Taking action in a way that is part of following the flow of life is something that takes me forward in a good way.  When I push to take action when it’s not the right time, I usually experience moving forward in an unbalanced way and often problems result.

I don’t even know if I can clearly describe what “follow the flow” means to me.  I read the I Ching and I have so often found wisdom and insight from things I have read there.  One of the things that stands out to me is how often it promotes keeping myself aligned with all things good and right, which the I Ching calls “correct principles”.   Humility, acceptance, equanimity, and gentleness are some of those correct principles.

When I think on these things, it reminds me to not rush forward impulsively into doing something, because I may be driven by incorrect principles such as pride, control over others, avoidance of something uncomfortable, anger.  I have learned that I need to still myself and center in a place of calm and peace, waiting to take action when doing so aligns with correct principles and “feels right”.  I have learned to trust that taking action in that way is trusting that if I don’t push my own agenda too much and instead focus on staying aligned with the things I know to be good and right, I will move forward in the way that is right for me and things will work out as they are supposed to for my ultimate good.

Following the flow has become a very important part of how I strive to live my life.  It is something I keep learning and working with as I move down my path, because doing that is an ever-evolving process.  It is something that has made my life better.

I hope you follow the flow today.
